I have been getting a lot of questions regarding supplements. Are they really helping? Are they hurting? Am I just peeing it all out? Here is a great article on the subject.
Basically, if you are taking handful of supplements and then going to McDonalds, nothing will help you, let’s get real here. If you are hurting yourself in one way, and then taking supplements (or hitting the gym for that matter) to make up for it, you are kidding yourself.
If you are taking supplements that are refined, like one part of vitamin C, you could be doing harm. Vitamin C is like a rainbow of nutrients. If you only take one part of it, without the combination and synergy of its other elements, you could be hurting yourself. So, make sure you are doing a whole food supplement like Standard Process.
Most stores are offering cheaper, mass produced supplements which are harsh on the system and contain chemicals, binders and nutrients that mostly do no good. Make sure you are getting yours from a reputable source who has vetted these products and has clinical experience with them.
Look at who is telling you supplementation will not work and what they can gain from you beleiving that. Who funded that study and why?
With all of the shams out there, Dr’s have become nervous about their patients taking supplements and I don’t blame them. They have seen the harm done.
